As part of the 2011 Melbourne Fringe Festival, this diamond shaped light sculpture ‘Unity’ was installed on the Melbourne Town Hall balcony for two weeks. It featured 85 flags of all of the nationalities living in Melbourne of more than 1000 people. Over the course of the festival the flag animations gradually abstracted with the use of geometric patterning. This abstraction of the flags was designed to act as a symbolic representation of the racial harmony and frictions apparent within multi-cultural Melbourne.
